GENERAL OBD-II CODE GUIDE
P0300Random or multiple cylinder misfire detected
What a general misfire result can mean, and what to record before diagnosis.
WHAT IT GENERALLY REPORTS
A starting point, not a parts list.
The engine computer detected misfire activity on more than one cylinder, or could not consistently identify a single cylinder. The code describes what the monitor observed; it does not identify the failed part.
Common symptoms
- The check-engine light may be on or may flash while a misfire is active.
- The engine may run unevenly, hesitate, shake, or feel down on power.
- Some vehicles show the code before the driver notices a change.
Possible causes
- An ignition, fuel-delivery, air-measurement, or engine-mechanical issue.
- A condition that affects more than one cylinder, or more than one issue at once.
- A temporary operating condition; the stored code and related data help put it in context.
Safe initial checks
- Record the exact code, any companion codes, and scan-tool snapshot data before clearing anything.
- Note when the engine runs differently, such as at startup, at idle, or while accelerating.
- If the light is flashing or the engine is running very roughly, pull over safely and arrange professional help rather than continuing to drive.
When to get professional help
- Get prompt help if the warning light flashes, power drops sharply, or the vehicle feels unsafe.
- A technician can use vehicle-specific service information and test results to distinguish among ignition, fuel, air, and mechanical causes.
